Amy Taylor picked up a first Ladies European Tour title thanks to a one-shot victory at the Ladies Italian Open.
The 23-year-old from England came into the final day’s play at Golf Nazionale with a one-shot advantage and fended off Spain’s Maria Hernandez and the rest of the chasing pack throughout the day by carding a three-under 69 which included six birdies to end the tournament on 10 under.
“I have no words at the moment!” she said after the victory. “I can’t really believe it. Earlier this week I went to the [Trevi] fountain in Rome and I did throw a coin in and wish that I would win! I didn’t tell anyone, but it came true!
“I knew I had two putts for it when I was on the 18th green. Harry [Ewing] my caddie said, ‘just tap it down there’, and I hit it three-foot past! So he might have aged a bit because of me today, but I’m just happy I was able to hole the one coming back. I still won so it’s ok!”
Victory means that Taylor has secured her status on the LET Tour for the next three years.
Hernandez, who was aiming to claim her first win on the LET Tour since 2010, carded a final-round 67 to finish a shot behind while there was a three-way tie for third which featured France’s Camille Chevalier, Singapore’s Shannon Tan and Italian amateur Francesca Fiorellini.
What is the next event?
The next event on the LET Tour is the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open taking place between 14-16 June at Royal Beroun Golf Club in Czechia.
