Scheffler Bags Second Title in Three Years
Hail King Scottie! If you were yet to believe it, it’s now written in stone that Scheffler is one of the most gifted golfers of this generation. The World No. 1 won his second Masters title in three years, becoming the fourth-youngest two-time winner of the tournament. The win also made Scheffler the second golfer, after Tiger Woods in 2001, to win both The Players Championship and the Masters in the same calendar year. The American is also the first player to lift The Players Championship trophy back-to-back in 2023 and 2024.
Aberg’s Impressive First Major Appearance
Some golfers belong in the limelight, and Ludvig Aberg is one of them. The Swedish talisman gave collegiate golfers sleepless nights as the world’s number one amateur before turning pro in June 2023. Since then, it’s been a meteoric rise, winning the Omega European Masters, the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic, and featuring in the Ryder Cup. Aberg shocked many big names when he finished second in the 2024 Masters, just four strokes behind Scheffler. He cerainly is a rising star in the sport.
The Par 3 Contest
The Par 3 Contest is one of the warmest Masters’ traditions, where golfers engage in friendly play alongside their families to relax before the heated competition begins. The 2024 par-3 contest was quite a special one, with Rickie Fowler winning with a 22 (−5) score. There were also, surprisingly, five holes-in-one recorded by Lucas Glover, Viktor Hovland, Gary Woodland, Luke List, and Sepp Straka.
First Round’s 53 Par-breaking Scores on the 8th Hole
There was a delay to the beginning of the first round due to inclement weather. As a result, 27 players completed the first round on Friday. Nonetheless, the par-5 8th hole recorded a historic 50 birdies and three eagles, totaling 53 par-breaking scores, the highest ever for the 8th hole in Masters history.
DeChambeau’s Incident On 13th
The Scientist produced a respectable performance in the tournament, finishing tied for 6th at two under. However, what excited many golf fans was an incident on the 13th hole during the second round when his tee shot found the trees. Renowned for his analytical approaches, DeChambeau moved a large directional sign in his line of play. Although a rules official faulted the move, the PGA TOUR’s longest driver birdied the hole anyway!
