Cantlay’s Two Eagles on Par-4s
A record-breaking moment in the second round was when Patrick Cantlay achieved two eagles on par-4s. The fete marked the fourth instance in Masters history where a golfer has posted two par-4 eagles in a single tournament. The last player to achieve that was Brandt Jobe in 2006.
Woods & Mickelson Making the Cut
Despite finishing at position 60, five-time Masters winner Tiger Woods put up a spirited fight and set the record for most consecutive cuts made at the Masters at 24. Tiger’s nemesis, Phil Mickelson, moved into solo fourth place for the most cuts made at the Masters after making the cut for the 28th time.
The Shark’s Appearance
LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman has earned the spot of one of the game’s most controversial figures in recent years. After expressing his disappointment for not being invited to the 2023 Masters, he was spotted mingling with players and patrons in the 2024 tournament. As it turns out, he was still not invited but acquired a ticket one way or another.
Day’s Malbon Outfits
A golf tournament is never quite complete without a fashion mishap, and during this year’s Masters, it was Jason Day’s turn. The Australian launched his “super wardrobe” with extra baggy pants, which a social media user joked could help him land safely if he jumped off the plane. He also made everyone’s day by wearing a striking Malbon “Championship” vest, which he was reportedly asked to take off.
Big Stars Biting Dust
Last but not least, we have to acknowledge that some golfers failed to meet golf fans’ expectations. First, 2023 champion Jon Rahm failed to show his spark throughout the tournament, finishing tied for 45th. Another notable player who missed the mark was Rory McIlroy, who fans have been rooting for to win a Masters title and complete a career grand slam. The Northern Irishman finished T22 as he still bids to complete the slam.
Parting Shot
The Masters tournament is undoubtedly one of the most thrilling showdowns on the golf calendar, and the 2024 edition didn’t disappoint.
