The final event of the Ladies European Tour in 2024 came to a close with Spain’s Carlota Ciganda hoisting the trophy at Málaga’s Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open de España pres. by OYSHO.
Ciganda started out the final day with a four-shot lead, however, her advantage was lost when she bogeyed two of the first three holes. Belgium’s Manon De Roey took advantage of this slip up to join her in the lead after she sunk four consecutive birdies to start the day. The two were neck and neck as Ciganda made her first birdie at the 5th, and although they both birdied the 7th, the Spaniard was ahead again by one shot.
By the 10th, Ciganda had found the water, and only just managed to make par, whilst De Roey went ahead with a three-foot birdie at the 12th. The Spaniard was quick to recover however, as she birdied the 14th and 17th. She led by two shots and wrapped up the win on 18 under despite ending with a bogey.
De Roey managed a bogey-free final round but finished solo second at 17 under. India’s Pranavi Urs ended in third on 14 under, four shots off the Spaniard.
This marks Ciganda’s second win of the season and her eighth overall in her LET career.
“I’m very happy to win here in Spain in front of so many people and my family, it’s always great to play here. I love Spain and it’s always very special,” said the 34-year-old winner.
“It wasn’t easy, sometimes when you have a four-shot lead it’s not easy. I haven’t been up there in a while, so I had some adrenaline going on and started with a couple of bogeys and Manon played really good on the front nine, so we were pretty tight those first few holes.
“I fought hard and I love when we are right there, I love to hit good shots, so I made a really good birdie on 14 and the putt on 17 was great too. I’m really happy to win here in Spain.”
In the LET Order of Merit, Ciganda’s win took her from 81st to 28th in the rankings, securing her playing card for 2025.
