EGA Confirms 2022 European Amateur Medallists

The EGA has confirmed the medallists of the 2022 European Men’s and Women’s Amateur Golf Rankings. The six players (three men and three women) receive formal recognition for their achievements in the form of an EGA medal.

The final 2022 European rankings, which extract European players from the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), were taken the day before the start of DP World Tour Qualifying School on 29 August.

In the men’s Ranking, Ludvig Åberg (SWE) has been awarded the gold medal for a second consecutive year. The Swedish player spent most of the season at the top of the European Amateur ranking, helped by wins at The Prestige and Big 12 Men’s Championship in the United States. This summer, Åberg finished in the top-20 at the European Amateur Championship, reached the quarter-finals of The Amateur Championship, and helped Sweden to a runner-up finish in the Eisenhower Trophy.

David Puig (ESP) has been awarded the silver medal in 2022 after earning the bronze medal last year. The Spanish player won the Southwestern Invitational earlier in the season, and recently claimed a top-five individual finish at the Eisenhower Trophy. Puig, who announced he’s turning pro this week, was also instrumental in Spain’s victory at the European Amateur Team Championship at Royal St. George’s in July.

Sam Bairstow (ENG) has earned the bronze medal. The Englishman climbed the rankings earlier this year with top-five finishes in the South African Stroke Play Championship, Copa Sotogrande, and the Brabazon Trophy, a title which he won last year. Bairstow’s highlights of the summer included a runner-up finish in The Amateur Championship and making the cut at The Open after earning a spot in the field through the qualifying stages.

In the Women’s ranking, Ingrid Lindblad (SWE) has been awarded the gold medal for a third consecutive year. The 2021 European Ladies’ Amateur Champion has won four U.S. college events in 2022, including the Moon Golf and Clemson Invitationals, and finished runner-up at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. The Swedish player recently helped her country to the World Amateur Team Championship title, finishing in the top five in the individual classification.

Caley McGinty (ENG) has earned the silver medal. The English player jumped up the rankings in autumn last year with back-to back wins in U.S. College tournaments. This summer she represented Great Britain & Ireland in the Curtis Cup, helped England to the European Ladies’ Team Championship title, and qualified for the AIG Women’s Open. She recently earned a top-20 individual finish at the Espirito Santo Trophy.

Amalie Leth-Nissen (DEN) has been awarded the bronze medal. The former Junior Vagliano Trophy player won the Trophée Esmond (French U21) and the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley this season. The Danish player also finished runner-up at the Smørum Ladies Open (LET Access) and secured a top-10 at the German Girls Open.

The European Amateur Golf Rankings classify European players using the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) system. The top three players in both the men’s and women’s European Amateur Golf Rankings are awarded medals at the end of the season. The cutoff is taken one day before the start of the first stage of DP World Tour Qualifying School.
