Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson: A Clash of the Titans

The Tiger Woods-Phil Mickelson feud almost takes the shape of the Palmer and Nicklaus rivalry, with Mickelson showing huge promise in the early 90s before Woods’ arrival in 1996 changed everything. What followed was a mega feud that defined golf for nearly two decades, with Mickelson struggling to win his first major while Woods’ career took off like a rocket. In the early 2000s, Mickelson remarked that Tiger’s Nike clubs were inferior, further intensifying their rivalry.

In 2004, pairing the duo together at the Ryder Cup proved dramatic, with their intolerance for each other resulting in two disappointing losses. As both golfers aged and enjoyed substantial success, their relationship softened, and they even agreed to participate in a high-profile head-to-head match dubbed “The Match” in 2018, watched by millions of viewers worldwide.

Patrick Reed vs. Just About Everyone

Patrick Reed has unashamedly established himself as the king of golf controversy, embracing the role of the villain and thriving in an “us vs. them” mentality. Even during his collegiate golf days at Augusta State and the University of Georgia, Reed was accused of cheating and breaking team rules. The 2019 Hero World Challenge sealed the player’s reputation as golf’s villain when cameras caught him red-handed improving his lie in a waste bunker, attracting backlash from golfers and critics alike. Reed is also known for his public fall-outs with other players and teammates, like after the 2018 Ryder Cup where he blamed captain Jim Furyk for Team USA’s failure and called out Jordan Spieth for not wanting to be paired with him.

Brooks Koepka vs. Bryson DeChambeau: A Modern Feud

Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau have blessed golf enthusiasts with one of the most entertaining recent golf feuds. Taking place in the modern powerful internet age, the animosity extended from just the course to interviews, social media, and fan interactions. It all started when Koepka criticized DeChambeau’s slow play, and then the latter fired back by criticizing the former’s lack of abs in ESPN’s Body Issue.

Temperatures flared when a leaked video in 2021 showed Koepka rolling his eyes in disgust as DeChambeau walked past during an interview. The video naturally went viral, with fans taunting DeChambeau by shouting “Brooksy” at tournaments. The PGA Tour was forced to mediate the feud, with both golfers facing off in a made-for-TV match, where Koepka dominated DeChambeau.
