Rory McIlroy Cements Legacy as Number One

Rory McIlroy has 100 weeks in number one spot

Rory McIlroy has been the number one player in the world for going on 100 weeks now.  After the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Rory McIlroy completed a monumental feat by completing his career’s seventh straight top-5 finish while on the PGA TOUR.

Tiger Woods has has the longest number one spot

Tiger Woods hold the number one spot for amount of weeks at number one with holding the accolade for a jaw dropping 683 weeks. In the second spot we have Greg Norman who has been in the spot for 331 weeks.

On Sunday Rory McIlroy may not have given his best performance, but he still shines bright as number one in the PGA TOUR. In the final round he ended up being four-over 76 at Bay Hill, and that ultimately dropped him to 79th in the final score.

Despite frustrations, McIlroy can come out a winner

Rory McIlroy makes his way into the Player’s Championship as the favorite and champion at 7-1. If he wins McIlroy will be one of the first TOUR player in history to have back-to-back performance at TPC Sawgrass. Despite this huge honor to add his resume, McIlroy has also vented some frustrations due to his performances during his last seven tournaments. However, his peers feel that the golf great has a trophy in the works.

“He might win for events in six weeks”

Former number one and PGA TOUR pro, Justin Thomas voiced that with the talent and tenacity that McIlroy has, he has no choice, but to come away with a victor. In a press conference on Tuesday he said, “I think you definitely have to look at it as a positive. When you’re as talented as Rory is you keep putting yourself there, it’s going to happen eventually, and he has the capability to do what he’s done a couple of times where he might win four events in six weeks.”

He added, “I know he knows that, I know we all know that, and he’s playing some unbelievable golf.”

PGA TOUR pro Webb Simpson also gushed about McIlroy’s greatness. “He’s certainly the best player in the world right now, and has floated in and out of the best player in the world for his whole career it seems like.”

One thing we can be sure of is that McIlroy’s skills has certainly brought a dynamic to the game of golf that is one to be admired and inspirational, as he continues to cement his legacy.
