Patrick Reed collected his second DP World Tour title in three weeks to continue his impressive start to 2026 with a two-shot victory at the Qatar Masters.
The 35-year-old, who won the Dubai Desert Classic in January and narrowly lost out in a play-off at the Bahrain Championship the week after, came into the final round at Doha Golf Club two shots ahead of nearest challenger Jacob Skov Olesen of Denmark. But his advantage soon vanished within the first two holes with the Dane drawing level following Reed’s shaky start. His sloppiness on the front nine continued, which Finland’s Oliver Lindell took advantage of to top the leaderboard.
However, Reed fought back with back-to-back birdies at the 10th and 11th to wrestle back control and his lead extended to three shots at the 14th with Lindell falling away due to a costly run of bogeys. Then came a late charge from Scotland’s Calum Hill who sunk four successive birdies between the 14th and 17th. But it was too little too late as Reed kept his cool with four pars in a row to close with a 2-under 70 and finish on 16 under to claim his fifth DP World Tour victory.
Victory means he moves into the top 20 of the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time since 2021 and now leads the way at the top of the Race to Dubai rankings.
“It wasn’t looking very good there on the front nine,” Reed said. “To lose the lead like that and then to be able to kind of flip the switch there on the back nine obviously felt amazing.
“This little run I’ve had, two wins and a second, it’s awesome. We couldn’t ask anything more than what we did,” he added. “It’s special, especially to get two wins early on in the season, and hopefully there’s a lot more to come.”
Last month, Reed became the second big-name player to leave LIV Golf and rejoin the PGA TOUR following fellow countryman Brooks Koepka. But unlike Koepka, Reed is unable to return to the PGA TOUR instantly as he is ineligible to be part of the returning member programme and will instead need to wait until August to play on the circuit again as that will be a year since his last LIV Golf appearance.
Hill carded a final-round 67 to finish runner-up on 14 under while there was a tie for third between Skov Olesen and America’s Johannes Veerman a shot further back on 13 under.
What is the next event?
The next event on the DP World Tour is the Magical Kenya Open presented by absa taking place between 19-22 February at Karen Country Club in Kenya.
