2017 Masters winner Sergio Garcia has apologized for his behavior during the final round of The Masters where the Spaniard smashed his driver.

The 46-year-old who plays on the LIV Golf circuit hit a errant tee shot at the second and saw frustration get the better of him as he slammed his club into the turf, snapping it in the process.

The outburst resulted in him being spoken to by Augusta National member Geoff Yang, chairman of the Masters competitions committee, and issued a conduct warning.

“I want to apologise for my actions on Sunday at the Masters tournament,” Garcia stated on X.

“I respect and value everything that the Masters and Augusta National Golf Club is ‌to golf.

“I regret the way I acted and it has no place in our game. It doesn’t reflect the respect and appreciation I ‌have for the Masters, the patrons, tournament officials ‌and golf fans around the world.”

Garcia was unable to replace his broken driver and so completed the rest of his round without it, going on to record a final-round 75 to finish in 52nd.
