Alex Noren earned his first DP World Tour title in seven years thanks to a narrow one-shot victory at the British Masters.

The 43-year-old Swede, who previously won the British Masters in 2016, entered the final round at The Belfry Hotel & Resort behind overnight leader Matt Fitzpatrick but the Englishman slipped out of contention as Noren fired a 5-under 67 to end the tournament on 16 under and claim his 11th career triumph on the DP World Tour.

“It means a lot.” Noren said. “It was a great, great weekend. I don’t think I’ve played like this for a very long time, and to get it done at the end, a little hiccup on the last, but extremely proud of myself.

“I told (caddie) Kyle (Morrison) earlier this year, ‘we are going to get it. We are going to get into good golf again after kind of a bumpy year’, and we did. My last three starts have been great.”

The Swede was also asked about his chances of taking part in this upcoming Ryder Cup.

“I think I still dismiss you [his chances],” he said. “It would be great but I’m more just happy to get this win – the first time in seven years.”

The congested leaderboard saw New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori and Denmark’s Nicolai Hojgaard tie for second on 15 under, Japan’s Keita Nakajima in fourth two shots further back, and England’s Andy Sullivan complete the top-five on 12 under.

What is the next event?

The next event on the DP World Tour schedule is the Omega European Open taking place between 28-31 August at Crans-sur-Sierre GC in Switzerland.
