Amy Yang sealed a first major victory of her career thanks to a dominant display at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in Seattle.

The 34-year-old South Korean had a two-shot advantage entering the final day at Sahalee Country Club and kept the lead throughout, even going seven shots ahead at one stage. And despite a late wobble with a bogey at the 16th and double bogey at the 17th, the world No.25 carded a level-par 72 to end the tournament on 7 under, three clear of American Lilia Vu, South Korea’s Jin Young Ko, and Japan’s Miyu Yamashita who all tie for second.

This is Yang’s first major triumph after her previous best results in major events came at the 2012 and 2015 U.S. Women’s Open where she came runner-up on both occasions. The wait for a first victory was the longest since Angela Stanford in 2018, with Yang achieving it in her 75th major start. Victory also means that she has earned the prize of $1.56m.

“I’m lost for words right now,” said Yang. “I started doubting myself if I was ever going to win a major before I retire and I’m so grateful and very, very happy to win one.

“All four rounds were tough out there, but I just trusted what I prepared and I did my best all week.”

What is the next event?

The next event on the LPGA Tour schedule is the Dow Championship taking place between 27-30 June and Midland Country Club in Michigan.
