Marcel Siem achieved a sixth career triumph on the DP World Tour by beating Tom McKibbin in a play-off at the Italian Open.
The 43-year-old German, who featured in his fourth event following hip surgery in February, holed a 22-feet putt at the last to end on 10 under alongside McKibbin and force the play-off at the Adriatic Golf Club Cervia.
“Holing that putt on 18 was one (of) the coolest moments in golf for me and doing it again in a playoff was fantastic,” Siem said.
Siem then sealed the victory with a birdie at the same hole in the play-off.
Despite McKibbin’s narrow defeat, the Northern Irishman’s second-place finish means that he has secured himself a place at the upcoming Open Championship in Royal Troon. American Sean Crocker, who finished a shot behind, has also qualifed for the event this month.
What is the next event?
The next event on the DP World Tour is the BMW International Open taking place between 4-7 July at Golfclub Munchen Eichenried in Germany.
