Alice Hewson earned her first Ladies European Tour title in four years thanks to a dramatic play-off victory at the Swiss Open.
The 26-year-old from England, who’s only previous victory on the LET came at the 2020 South African Women’s Open, hit a final-round 65 which included three birdies and an eagle to find herself tied with India’s Tvesa Malik on 11 under following the conclusion of the regulation holes at Golfpark Holzhausern which at one point saw 23 players within three shots of the lead.
Hewson clinched the victory and the 45,000 euros ($49,000) prize on the first play-off hole after she made birdie and Malik failed to match.
“I’m a little bit lost for words really,” said Hewson. “Huge congrats to Tvesa as well. It was an unreal finish from her today. It was an honour being out there with her in the play-off. It feels a bit surreal. It’s been a while since I’ve been in this situation.
“Coming from my first-ever event on Tour [which I won], to now, it’s been a journey. A lot of ups and downs. I’m lost for words.”
This victory means that Hewson climbs up to fifth in the LET Order of Merit.
What is the next event?
The next event on the Ladies European Tour is the Aramco Team Series event in London taking place between 3-5 July at the Centurion Club.
