Pajaree Anannarukarn Triumphs in LPGA Bank of Hope Match-Play

Pajaree Anannarukarn defeated Ayaka Furue 3&1 in the final of the LPGA Bank of Hope Match-Play to claim her second career LPGA title.

The 24-year-old from Thailand completed a total of 34 holes at Shadow Creek Country Club and triumphed by playing a total of 116 holes throughout the tournament.

On her route to the final, she tied Karis Davidson of Australia at 2-1-0 in her group and beat Davidson on their first playoff hole on Friday. During the early stages on Sunday, she defeated Linn Grant of Sweden 3&1 in the semi-finals, where she sunk eight birdies.

In the final, Furue gained a one-hole advantage after Anannarukarn bogeyed on the second hole, but the match was tied when Anannarukarn achieved par on the par-four third while Furue bogeyed.

The fifth and sixth saw both gain an advantage each but Anannarukarn reclaimed the lead with a birdie on the par-five seventh. Anannarukarn continued to defend her lead and then went on to extend it when hitting a birdie at the par-four 12th.

Despite Furue showing determination not to give up, winning the 13th hole, Anannarukarn lead by two with two to go and the victory was then wrapped up for Anannarukarn with a birdie at the par-three 17th.

“I just, you know, tried every possible way just to improve my game and just keep believing, and I’m lucky that I have everyone around me that helped me and supported me along the way just since day one,” Anannarukarn said.

“The wind definitely picked up a lot and I think I used all of my birdies and focus [in the semi-final], so I really try hard to focus on myself.

“I missed couple putts and I even shanked off the bunker. I mean, it’s golf and I’m really tried, so I’m glad I was able to play decent enough.”

This is Anannarukarn first victory on the LPGA Tour since the ISPS Handa World Invitational in 2021 and joins a list of Thai players that includes Atthaya Thitikul, Moriya Jutanugarn, and Jasmine Suwannapura as two-time LPGA Tour winners.

The next event on the LPGA Tour is the Mizuho Americas Open which takes place between June 1-4 at the Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey.
