Seven-time LPGA TOUR winner Angela Stanford has been named the captain to lead Team USA at the 2026 Solheim Cup in the Netherlands.
The 47-year-old, who has one major title to her name winning the 2018 Evian Championship, has previously taken part in the Solheim Cup as a player with a record of three wins and three losses.
She made her debut in the biennial team event in 2003 and her final appearance in 2015, Team USA’s last triumph on European soil in Germany.
In more recent years, she has been Team USA’s vice captain in the past three iterations of the contest in 2021, 2023, and 2024.
Team USA will look to retain the Solheim Cup next year after they successfully collected the title for the first time since 2017 in last year’s event at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia.
“I’m extremely grateful to be named the next American captain for the Solheim Cup and join a list of my heroes in the game,” Stanford said. “I’ve always believed that I represent more than myself on the LPGA Tour, and there is no greater honour than representing your country.
“I consider this the pinnacle of my career and I’m looking forward to leading our players to the Netherlands.”
The American holds the record for the longest consecutive major appearances in LPGA Tour history beginning from 2002 to 2024.
The next edition of the Solheim Cup will take place as Bernardus Golf between 11-13 September, 2026.
