Annabel Dimmock ended her five-year winless streak by defeating Pauline Bouchard in a play-off to win the KPMG Women’s Irish Open.
The 27-year-old from England, whose only victory on the Ladies European Tour came at the 2019 Jabra Ladies Open, came into the final round at O’Meara Course at Carton House with a two-shot advantage and went onto card a three-under 70 to end on 19 under but a final-round 65 from France’s Bouchard meant she also ended on 19 under forcing the playoff.
Both players parred the first play-off hole, but a par on the second play-off hole was enough for Dimmock to defeat Bouchard and take home her second LET Tour title.
“I’m just shell-shocked and over the moon right now,” said Dimmock, who had been suffering from a long-term thumb injury which had prevented her from taking part in the game for eight months.
I have worked really hard to get myself back and I am proud of myself.”
Following defeat in the play-off, Bouchard said: “It was just good golf all around.”
“I missed a few opportunities, but I made others. It was great. I went for it in that play-off. You try things, sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t.”
Both players ended the tournament a shot ahead of Finland’s Ursula Wikstroem while Switerland’s Chiara Tamburlini finished a shot further back on 17 under.
What is the next event?
The next event on the Ladies European Tour schedule, following the Solheim Cup, is the La Sella Open taking place between 19-22 September at La Sella Golf Resort in Spain.
