America’s Nature Golf Destination

America’s Nature Golf Destination

Big Cedar Lodge, nestled in the breathtaking Ozarks along the shores of Table Rock Lake, is more than just a golf resort; it’s a destination where nature and golf come together in perfect harmony. Recently named America’s Best Golf Resort by USA TODAY’s readers, Big Cedar has earned widespread acclaim for its stunning courses, rich conservation efforts, luxury accommodations, and unparalleled guest experiences. Here, every round is played against a backdrop of natural beauty.

Recognized for its unmatched combination of championship golf, outdoor adventure, and genuine Ozarks hospitality, Big Cedar Lodge has become a bucket-list destination for golfers and nature lovers from around the globe. Each of the property’s six distinct courses is the result of a collaboration between Johnny Morris and some of the most iconic names in golf course architecture: Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Tom Fazio, Gary Player, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. These visionary layouts are designed to blend elite-level play with breathtaking landscapes — ensuring each course not only challenges and excites but also fosters a deeper connection with the outdoors.

This dedication to nature and conservation is no accident. The resort is the passion project of Johnny Morris, noted conservationist and founder of Bass Pro Shops. Morris grew up exploring the Ozark Mountains and waterways and has long dreamed of sharing their splendor with visitors while preserving the land for future generations. Every course at Big Cedar reflects this mission, with all receiving the prestigious Audubon International Signature Sanctuary designation—the highest honor for golf course environmental stewardship worldwide.

Over the years, Big Cedar Lodge has redefined what golf in the Ozarks looks like. Through its diverse course offerings—from mountaintop par-3s to immersive 18-hole challenges—the resort has carved out a one-of-a-kind destination that celebrates outdoor living and thoughtful design. Exposed rock cropping, dramatic elevation changes, native grasses, and panoramic vistas immerse golfers in the rugged beauty of the region. And beyond the greens, Big Cedar offers countless adventures including hiking, fishing, boating, wildlife encounters, and fine dining, delivering a true retreat experience.

One of the most unique aspects of Big Cedar Lodge is its accessibility. All of its courses are open to the public, welcoming both seasoned players and first-time visitors alike. Every guest can experience championship level golf, wrapped in Johnny Morris’s vision of nature-driven hospitality.

The Courses

Payne’s Valley

Named in honor of the late Payne Stewart, Payne’s Valley is the first fully public-access course in the world completed by Tiger Woods’ design firm, TGR Design. A partnership between Johnny Morris and Tiger Woods, the course celebrates the traditions of the game while inviting a new generation of players. Most recently, it was named the #3 Best Public Course in the country by USA TODAY’s readers.

The course’s most iconic feature is its dramatic 19th hole par 3, “The Big Rock.” Often referred to as the “19th Wonder of the World,” perhaps the most dramatic moment in the Payne’s Valley experience was envisioned and designed entirely by Johnny Morris. A true island green, the hole is only accessible by bridge and nestled at the base of waterfall and 200-foot cliffside.

Ozarks National

The golf course architect team of Coore & Crenshaw share Johnny Morris’ passion and appreciation for nature and conservation, making Ozarks National a striking display for the senses and a fitting tribute to the Ozarks region.

Designed to test avid players and golf travelers from around the country and provide the perfect complement to the 18-hole championship course at Buffalo Ridge.

Buffalo Ridge

While all the golf offerings at Big Cedar Lodge are quite different, its stunning visual drama unifies them. True to its name, the Tom Fazio-designed Buffalo Ridge — on Golf Digest’s Top 100 — has an actual herd of buffalo grazing alongside its fairways, something few visiting golfers have ever seen before on a course. Adding new approaches, water features and bunkers, Johnny Morris and Fazio created a course layout to bring players in close contact with nature.

Top of the Rock

Big Cedar Lodge has pushed the envelope in terms of changing the way golf resorts welcome guests with its shorter courses. Top of the Rock is a 9-hole par-3 course designed by history’s greatest golfer and accomplished designer, Jack Nicklaus. Overlooking Table Rock Lake, dramatic holes stretch to over 200 yards, with lakes, cliffs, exposed rock ledges and views so stunning that the course is the only par-3 layout ever used by the PGA Tour for a championship event!

Mountain Top

World Golf Hall of Famer Gary Player and Johnny Morris teamed up to create Mountain Top, a 13-hole, par-3 walking only course. As its name implies, the elevated setting, sweeping views and nature are paramount. The course was designed to bring a more accessible experience to families, juniors and golfers who are learning the game as it routes through unforgettable rock formations and includes some of the best vistas in the region.

NEW: Cliffhangers

The new one-of-a-kind adventure course, Cliffhangers, is the sixth course at the award-winning golf resort and is located adjacent to Tiger Woods’ acclaimed Payne’s Valley. The course lives up to its name with dramatic elevation changes, breathtaking views, and holes ranging from 60 to 170 yards, all meticulously carved into the region’s iconic limestone cliffs and flowing creeks. Players will drive carts through cascading waterfalls, cross through swift flowing creeks, and journey into a dramatic cave system—culminating in a tee shot launched from inside the cavern through a waterfall! Cliffhangers will open on July 4, 2025.

Beyond the Fairways

Big Cedar Lodge offers accommodations for every type of traveler—from cozy lakeside cottages and rustic lodges to private log cabins with sweeping Ozark views. For guests wanting to stay closer to the courses, Payne’s Valley Golf Course cottages feature full kitchens, stone fireplaces, private patios, and even putting greens and pools—ideal for buddies’ trips or family getaways.

Johnny Morris’s vision goes far beyond golf. At Big Cedar Lodge, guests find a place to disconnect, recharge, and connect with the outdoors. From world-class golf to guided nature walks, wildlife experiences, and world-class dining, the resort celebrates the wonder of the Ozarks in every detail.

As the resort continues to grow and evolve with exciting developments always on the horizon one thing remains constant: Big Cedar Lodge is a sanctuary for nature lovers and golf enthusiasts alike, offering a truly unique blend of outdoor adventure and championship golf.
