Byeong Hun An defeated fellow South Korean Tom Kim in a play-off to lift his second DP World Tour title at the Genesis Championship.
Both players, who were teammates in September’s Presidents Cup, came into the final round at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club near Seoul tied for the lead and entertained fans in what was a dramatic and tightly-contested final day which saw six different players have a form of the lead. The pair went onto match eachother by carding final-round 67s to finish on 17 under forcing a play-off.
Returning to the last for the play-off, Kim found himself in an uncomfortable position following the second shot which led him to hit the grandstand on the third and ultimately finish with a bogey. An capitalized by reaching the par-5 hole in two and sealing his first DP World Tour triumph in over nine years since his first victory in the 2015 BMW PGA Championship.
“It’s great, I’ve had a great season, it’s been too long [to win] on the main Tour,” An said.
“All I tried to do is show some great golf in front of the home fans, it’s been a while since I’ve played in front of them.
“It feels amazing, it’s a bit of a shame that Tom had a bit of a mess there, but it’s been a great tournament for me, I’ve really enjoyed it.
“There has been a lot of fans out there supporting me and Tom and I feel like we had a great battle. I just got a little bit lucky to be a winner out there I think.”
Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia hit a final-round 67 to finish a shot behind in third, a result which earned him his first top-20 finish of the year cementing his full European card for next year after climbing to 100th in the world rankings.
France’s Antoine Rozner and Italy’s Guido Migliozzi completed the top five finishing forth and fifth respectively with the Frenchman carding a 68 to end on 15 under and the Italian carding the lowest round of the day, a 65, to finish a shot further back.
