Scotland’s Connor Syme collected his first DP World Tour title thanks to a comfortable two-shot victory at the KLM Open in Amsterdam.
The 29-year-old entered the final round at The International with a two-shot advantage over playing partner Joakim Lagergren and the Swede was his only real potential threat with the rest of the field well back on a rain and wind-affected Sunday.
Lagergren sunk a fine eagle at the last to card a final-round 70 and conclude on 9 under but the Scotsman maintained the composure he had throughout the day to two-putt the same hole to seal victory and take home the $467,500 winners prize.
“Unbelievable, it was so, so difficult the last few days,” Syme said.
“I just felt so much better this week, I felt really ready to do it, and I’m so, so happy I managed to do it.”
Syme joins an exclusive list including Colin Montgomerie, Gordon Brand Jr, and Ken Brown as the only Scottish champions of the KLM Open.
South Africa’s Jayden Schaper finished in third, 5 shots back from Lagergren on 4 under, while there was a three-way tie for fourth between Scottish duo Richie Ramsay and Ewen Ferguson and England’s Jack Senior all on 3 under.
What is the next event?
The next event on the DP World Tour schedule, following the U.S. Open, is the Italian Open taking place between 26-29 June at Argentaria GC.
