Former LIV Golf player Eugenio Chacarra collected a second straight DP World Tour title thanks to a convincing five-shot victory at the DS Automobiles 83° Open d’Italia.
The 26-year-old Spaniard, who edged out Finland’s Oliver Lindell at the KLM Open a few weeks back, entered the final round at Cicero Golf Torino with a two-shot lead and maintained his advantage draining five birdies in his first 10 holes. England’s Matt Wallace stayed hot on the heels of Chacarra to remain in contention but a sublime 30-foot eagle putt at the 15th proved pivotal for Chacarra, extending his lead to three and taking a big step forward towards going back-to-back. In the closing stages, Wallace failed to keep ground as he drifted away by dropping shots in his final two holes to widen the gap to five. While three successive pars following the 15th saw Chacarra post a final-round 64 to end the tournament on 24 under and cruise to what in the end was a dominant win, his third on the DP World Tour in 15 months.
“I’m feeling great, winning’s always fun but that’s what we work for,” Chacarra said. “I’m very proud of how I played and how I managed myself today.
“It was a good fight, two world-class players,” he added. “That’s what I’ve been dreaming of since I was little, to play against those kind of players down the stretch and I’m very proud of how I played and how I managed myself today.”
Victory means Chacarra has earned himself a spot at the upcoming Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, the final major of the season.
“I’m so excited,” Chacarra said when talking about the Open Championship. “I never played there, I dream of playing it always. I watch every Open on TV since I was little, so excited to be out there. Now time to celebrate and then we can focus on that.”
He has also taken a crucial stride toward claiming his PGA TOUR card for 2027 through the DP World Tour Rankings by climbing three places to third in the season-long Race to Dubai standings, behind only Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy. Those who finish within the top 10 and are not exempt already will each receive a PGA TOUR card for the following season.
Chile’s Joaquin Niemann finished in third on 18 under, Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren ended in fourth on 17 under, and Spain’s Ángel Ayora completed the top five on 16 under.
