The Masters is arguably the biggest golf event of the year – fans worldwide tune in to watch the best players in the sport battle it out for a chance to win the legendary Green Jacket. This year’s field is as stacked as it gets with top playing contenders, so we can expect another enthralling tournament. Here’s a preview of what to expect.

History

The Masters is one of the four major championships in professional golf. It is held annually at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, USA. Clifford Roberts and Bobby Jones founded the Masters, and it is the first of the majors to be played each year.

The tournament consists of four rounds of eighteen holes each, played over four days. The field for the tournament is limited to ninety players. The winner receives a Green Jacket from Augusta National Golf Club, which has become an iconic symbol of excellence in golf.

The Masters has been won by some of the biggest names in golf, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and most recently Rory McIlroy.

How to Watch

The Masters 2026 will be held from April 9th-12th. It will be the 90th edition and it will feature a field of 91 players.

To watch the Masters, you can go to the official website and purchase a ticket. If you’re unable to attend in person, there are also several ways to watch the tournament on TV or online. You can check with your local listings for TV coverage or find live streams online through some different sites. With a bit of planning, you can ensure you don’t miss a minute of the action.

Coverage will be broadcast on CBS, Golf Channel, and ESPN.

A ticket to watch the Masters Golf tournament typically costs around $115. However, prices can vary depending on where you purchase your ticket and when you purchase it. For example, tickets purchased closer to the event date will generally be more expensive than those bought in advance. Additionally, tickets for specific tournament days, such as the opening day or the final round, may also be more expensive. As such, it’s best to plan and budget accordingly if you’re hoping to attend the Masters.

Contenders

There are a number of great contenders this year for this year’s Masters. Near the top of that list would be reigning champion McIlroy who ended his long-awaited Grand Slam wait last year and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who already has two Green Jackets to his name. Neither may have had the most impressive starts to 2026 but it would be foolish to tule them out as contenders as they will be looking to show off who they really are at such an illustrious event.

Also invited and looking to contend are Cameron Young, Xander Schauffele, and Tommy Fleetwood, all of whom have a serious case having experienced a good 6-9 months on the course. Young came out on top at this year’s PLAYERS Championship, improving as the year has gone on. Schauffele has also found his form in recent months, somewhat replicating his play in 2024 which earned him two major titles. While Fleetwood, who ended his agonising wait to win on the PGA TOUR toward the end of last year at the TOUR Championship will be eager to break another duck and claim his first career major triumph. Four top-10 finishes in his five appearances this season would suggest he should be in the running.

Then there are the LIV players, specifically Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, both of whom should still be taken seriously in this contest. Both occupy the top two spots on the current LIV Golf standings and will come into the Masters looking to ruffle some feathers. DeChambeau, especially, is the name on everybody’s list having been on fire in recent weeks on the Saudi-backed circuit.
