Hannah Green defeated Xiyu Lin and Aditi Ashok to end her winless drought and claim her third LPGA Tour victory at the JM Eagle LA Championship.
Green, Lin, and Ashok finished the final day at nine-under 275 to force the play-off at Wilshire Country Club. Green joined the play-off with a two-under 69, Lin joined the lead with a four-under 67 which included back-to-back birdie at 17 and 18. Ashok birdied the final hole to climb herself up alongside Green and Lin, recovering from a bogey a 17.
The play-off took place at the par-three 18th which saw the Australian triumph over the China’s Lin and India’s Ashok. On the first trip, Ashok was furthest from the pin and witnessed her birdie putt lip out ruling her out as Lin and Green extended the play-off. On the second trip, Green’s two putt par saw her clinch victory over Lin after she missed a long par putt after landing in the bunker on her tee shot.
This victory marks Green’s first win on the LPGA Tour since the 2019 Cambia Portland Classic in 2019. In the same year, she also achieved victory at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
“It’s been a long few years, and I played really well last year, but getting across the line has been really difficult,” a teary Green said.
“I’m really proud of myself for hanging in there because I really didn’t think that I’d be in it with how I was playing and making so many pars.
“I knew you didn’t need a low score today to win. My caddie just said stay patient. You always try to do that.”
The next event on the LPGA Tour is the Cognizant Founder Cup between 11-14 May at the Upper Montclair Country Club in New Jersey.
