Jordan Gumberg capitalized on a poor final day from home favorite Robin “Tiger” Williams to claim his first DP World Tour title in the SDC Championship.
The 28-year-old American found himself in a play-off against Williams after the South African squandered a two-shot lead with two holes remaining, ending on 12 under thanks to a double-bogey on the par-three 17th and a par on the last.
Both players parred the first play-off hole but Gumberg sealed victory on the second after his birdie putt from approximately 15 feet.
“I knew today was going to be tough with the rain and I tried to go one shot at a time,” Gumberg said.
“It was a solid round of golf and I’m just so thankful to be standing here. It means everything.
“I never got this far in my dreams, so I am lost for words. It was what we practise for, all the long hours, it makes it worthwhile.”
France’s Davi Ravetto finished in third, two shots behind on 10 under while England’s Daniel Brown and Scotland’s Connor Syme, who were the overnight leaders finished tied-fourth on 8 under alongside four others after carding disappointing 75s in the final round.
The next event on the DP World Tour schedule is the Jonsson Workwear Open taking place between 7-10 March at Glendower Golf Club in South Africa.
