J.T. Poston collected a third PGA TOUR title of his career thanks to a narrow one-shot victory at a weather-affected Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas.
The 31-year-old American, who’s only two victories on the PGA TOUR came at the 2022 John Deere Classic and the 2019 Wyndham Championship, narrowly edged out countryman Doug Ghim in the final round at TPC Summerlin by carding a 4-under 67 which included a stretch of three birdies on the back nine.
“It’s never easy winning out here on Tour. Today was no different. It was nice,” Poston said.
“I had a few holes to finish the third round this morning, and my goal was to try and snag the lead and maybe even build on it before the end of the third round. “Was able to do that, which was great.”
This victory comes on Poston’s first appearance since the BMW Championship in August, earns him 500 FedExCup points, a place in the top 50 on the Official World Golf Rankings, and cements him a third consecutive appearance at the Masters.
Ghim’s runner-up finish is his highest finish thus far on the PGA TOUR but believes he needs to up his game during the final rounds of events to get over the line.
“I did everything I could obviously,” Ghim said. “Haven’t had the best history so far in final rounds and final groups, so it’s definitely going to be a little badge on my chest I guess in a sense that the next time I get in position, I’ll have that in my memory bank of knowing I’ve done it before.”
There was a tie for third between Germany’s Matti Schmid and Rico Hoey of the Philippines both on 19 under.
What is the next event?
The next event on the PGA TOUR schedule is the ZOZO Championship taking place between 24-27 October at Accordia Golf Club in Japan.
