Justin Rose stormed to his 13th career PGA TOUR victory with a dominant wire-to-wire win at the Farmers Insurance Open, setting a record tournament score.
The Englishman came into the final round at Torrey Pines’ South Course with a commanding six-shot advantage and pressure from nearest challengers Ryo Hisatsune of Japan and America’s Joel Dahmen never materialised as he cruised the final round carding a two-under 70 to finish on a tournament record score of 23 under, beating the previous score of 22 under set by George Burns in 1987 and repeated by Tiger Woods in 1999.
It is Rose’s first PGA TOUR win since the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship and at 45 years old, he is the oldest player to win the tournament and the oldest player to seal a wire-to-wire victory since Rocco Mediate in October 2010 at the age of 47.
“Today, obviously, wasn’t my largest score, but it was a good score. I felt like I played well,” said Rose following his triumph. “I felt like I did all the right things. I felt like I didn’t sort of get myself in any predicaments.
“I think, when you do have a lead, you want the first change of the scorecard to be a birdie rather than a bogey. I felt like that putt at number four really settled me in and I felt like from that point it was going to be my day.
“But, I never let my guard down. There are other things to play for – to have a tournament record, 23 under, I was keenly aware of that.
“It was an amazing week. You know, everything seemed to be heading in that direction. 36, 54, 72 all scoring records. I just wanted to finish off as strongly as I could.”
Hisatsune carded a final-round 69 to end in a tie for second on 18 under alongside American Pierceson Coody, who hit a best round of the day with a seven-under 65, and South Korea’s Si Woo Kim.
Brooks Koepka marked his first appearance back on the PGA TOUR in a tie for 56th on 4 under.
What is the next event?
