Leona Maguire Secures Meijer LPGA Classic Victory

Leona Maguire produced a spectacular late charge by hitting a final-round 64 to claim a two-shot victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic.

The 28-year-old, who came runner-up in the tournament last year, fired an eagle and six birdies in her last six holes to propel her the leaderboard and finish the tournament on 21 under to win her second career LPGA Tour title.

“I felt like I played some really good golf last year,” Maguire said. “Missed out on a play-off here, second at CME. You have to play really good golf to win out here. It’s tough. It’s a really nice feeling to get this one, especially heading into the majors we have coming up.”

Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand secured the second position, while Amy Yang from South Korea and Xiyu Lin from China shared the third spot, finishing on 18 under.

Hyo Joo Kim secured the fifth position, surpassing Jasmine Suwannapura from Thailand and Kupcho from the United States. Notably, Kupcho briefly took the lead with a hole-in-one at the par-three fifth.

The Meijer LPGA Classic served as the final tournament preceding the upcoming major event on the women’s golf calendar, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will commence at Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey from Thursday 15th June.
