France’s Martin Couvra produced a sensational final round performance to claim a first victory on the DP World Tour at the Turkish Airlines Open.
The 22-year-old rookie, who has impressed during his first campaign on the DP World Tour thanks to four top-10 finishes, made an even bigger impression after he wiped out a four-shot deficit on the final day at Regnum Carya to card a final-round 64 featuring nine birdies and earn a breakthrough victory on the professional circuit.
“It was amazing to win on my first year on the DP World Tour – it’s just a dream,” Couvra said. “I wake up in the morning to win some tournaments and to win early [in my DP World Tour career] is fantastic, so really happy about that.
Naturally, it was really difficult to keep calm and in good shape to close out this round, but I was really happy with all of the discussions with my caddie today, it was just amazing. I think tonight is going to be fun with all of the French players!”
The victory lifts him to eighth in the Race to Dubai Rankings as he continues to turn heads on his first professional season.
England’s Brandon Robinson-Thompson who topped the leaderboard entering the final round was unable to replicate his display in the third round where he shot a joint-course record 62 as he could only muster a final-round 72 dropping him down to fourth two shots back of Spain’s Jorge Campillo and China’s Li Haotong who shared second on 15 under.
What is the next event?
The next event on the DP World Tour schedule, following the PGA Championship, is the Soudal Open taking place between 22-25 May at Rinkven International GC in Belgium.
