Matthieu Pavon sealed his first victory on the DP World Tour thanks to a comfortable four-shot victory at the Open de España in Madrid.
In his 185th start on the DP World Tour, the 30-year-old Frenchman took a two-shot lead going into the final day but went onto to extend his advantage hitting a seven-under 64 which included four birdies in the first seven holes to end the tournament on 23 under, four shots clear of second South Africa’s Zander Lombard.
“That was a very long wait”, Pavon said, who finished runner-in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
“Seven years on tour and I didn’t have a win yet. But it really was worth it. A part of my heart is here in Spain – my grandfather lived here.
“It was really hard to keep the tears inside but now I can let it go a little bit.”
England’s Nathan Kimsey carded a 67 in the final round to finish in third whilst there was a tie for fourth featuring Germany’s Marcel Siem and Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti.
Eight players shared a tie for eight including defending champion and world no. 3 Jon Rahm who carded a 64 to finish on 14 under.
The next event on the DP World Tour is the Andalucía Masters taking place between 19-22 October at the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande in Madrid, Spain.
