Mone Inami collected a maiden LPGA Tour title as she held off Shiho Kuwaki and Seon Woo Bae to win the TOTO Japan Classic.

The 24-year-old home favorite began the final day at Taiheiyo Club Minori Course one shot behind compatriots Kuwaki and Nasa Hataoka but hit a three-under 69 to finish the tournament on 22 under and take top spot to clinch a 13th career victory but first on the LPGA Tour.

Prior to the event, Inami had stated she had been “struggling not only with my golf but with my body condition”.

“I haven’t felt comfortable with my swing all year long and changed my swing four times,” she said.

“But I got something of a good feeling with my swing this week, it worked well and I won this tournament.”

Kuwaki carded a final round 71, resulting in a second-place tie with Bae but Hataoka slipped down to 8th alongside six other players after she recorded a disjointed 74 which included a bogey at the fourth and double bogey at the 15th.

This victory for Inami means that she has cemented her LPGA Tour membership for the rest of the current season as well as the whole of 2024.

Defending champion Gemma Dryburgh ended the tournament tied for 6th with Thailand’s Thidapa Suwannapura on 19 under, three shots behind the winner.

The next event on the LPGA Tour is The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican taking place between 9-12 November at Pelican Golf Club in Florida.
