Nelly Korda maintained her excellent form in 2024 by securing her sixth victory in seven starts at the Mizuho Americas Open.
The World No.1 entered the final day with a two-shot advantage but found herself tied for the lead at the turn with Australia’s Hannah Green after three bogeys and a birdie on the front nine.
With three holes remaining, the pair stayed neck-and-neck after matching each other at the tenth, 13th, and 15th. But Green was the one who buckled after she missed a par putt at 18th which was not helped after she pulled her initial tee shot wide which led her to close with a bogey.
This meant a par on the final hole was enough for Korda to seal yet another victory on the LPGA Tour in 2024. This is the American’s 14th LPGA Tour victory and she has now become the first to win on six or more occasions in a season since Beth Daniel in 1990 who achieved seven.
“To lose to Nelly – it’s sad, but then it’s also Nelly Korda,” Green said. “You know, she’s obviously so dominant right now. To feel like second behind her is quite nice. Unfortunately the bogey on the last has a little bit of a sour taste, but I still competed out there when I didn’t really think I was in it at all.”
There was a four-way tie for third that featured America’s Jennifer Kupcho, Australia’s Gabriela Ruffels (72) and Thailand’s Chanettee Wannasaen, and Ariya Jutanugarn all on 10 under.
What is the next event?
