Who Are The Opening Pairings For the 2023 Ryder Cup?

Team USA and Team Europe have announced their opening pairings that will tee off the much-anticipated 2023 Ryder Cup on Friday.

For the third Ryder Cup in a row, Spain’s Jon Rahm will lead his team out, kicking off the Friday foursomes at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club alongside partner England’s Tyrrell Hatton. They will go up against world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns in the first match that will tee off at 7.35am.

Rookie Ludvig Aberg has been partnered up with fellow Scandinavian Viktor Hovland and they will take on Brian Harman and Max Homa.

Team Europe captain Luke Donald has made the choice to play another rookie in the foursomes, pairing Austria’s Sepp Straka with Ireland’s Shane Lowry. They will face Team USA veteran Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa.

In his seventh Ryder Cup appearance, Rory McIlroy has been paired with a new partner in Tommy Fleetwood and they will match up against Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

The likes of Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose, and Matt Fitzpatrick have not been selected to take part in the morning foursomes but are set to be included in the fourballs.

For the first time in three decades, Team Europe have opted to commence a home tournament with foursomes instead of fourballs.
