Ash Barty
Although many pro athletes retire around age 35, Australian tennis star Ash Barty surprised many when she retired at the height of her career in March 2022 aged 25 years. The three-time Grand Slam title winner then ventured into other hobbies, such as golf as witnessed when she participated in 2020’s Icons Series USA tournament in New Jersey.
Peyton Manning
Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Peyton Manning is another athlete who enjoys hitting the course either for fun or a noble cause. The legendary former NFL quarterback hardly misses celebrity pro-am events such as the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am every February. Manning was also among the stars that played golf to raise funds for Covid relief.
Jeff McNeil
Long Beach State alumni Jeff McNeil didn’t always wish to be a baseball player, the star wanted to be a pro golfer. Nonetheless, the baseball offers were tabled first, leading to a career along that line. The New York Mets star however held on to his love for golf and can still drive the ball 300+ yards.
Mike Modano
NHL Hall of Famer Mike Modano enjoyed one of the most illustrious hockey careers during his 22 seasons. Modano has however proved to be a jerk of many trades, especially during the 2021 American Century Celebrity Golf Championships in Stateline, Nevada. The star impressed pros and fans alike with his well-executed double eagle on the 205-yard 18th hole.
Rick Rhoden
Rick Rhoden is one of the few pro athletes to perform extraordinarily in two sports – baseball and golf. The star enjoyed a highly decorated 16-year-old career as a Major League pitcher where he once won 13 straight games in a single month. As a golfer, Rhoden played 34 tournaments on the PGA Champions Seniors Tour and also won the American Century Championships a record eight times.
Parting Shot
The above-listed pro athletes are proof enough that a strong relationship exists between different sports. Golf seems to be the central favorite sport where even retired athletes from other leagues can enjoy their retirement in style and participate in celebrity tournaments. And what better way to enjoy your senior years than being surrounded by fresh air and lush-green landscapes!
