Rory McIlroy Dismisses LIV Golf Rumors

Rory McIlroy has denied reports linking him to a potential big money move to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf by stating that he will remain on the PGA TOUR “for the rest of my career.”

The four-time major winner had been linked to a move to LIV Golf this week by the publication City AM that claimed that the Northern Irishman had been offered $850m to join.

“I honestly don’t know how these things get started,” McIlroy said. “I’ve never been offered a number from LIV and have never contemplated going to LIV.”

LIV Golf was launched in 2022 and has since received a mixture of support and backlash from various sectors in the world of golf. McIlroy, especially, has been one of the strongest critics of the tour.

However, LIV Golf have managed to prize away some of the biggest names in golf from the PGA TOUR including Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Phil Mickelson.

But despite the number of high-profile golfers making the switch, McIlroy has dismissed the idea of him being one of the next to defect.

“I think I’ve made it clear over the past two years that I don’t think it’s something for me,” McIlroy added of LIV.

“It doesn’t mean I judge people that have went and played over there. I think one of the things I’ve realised over the past two years is people can make their own decisions for whatever they think is best for themselves. Who are we to judge them for that?

“For me, my future is here on the PGA Tour and it’s never been any different.”

He added: “It’s never even been a conversation for us. It’s one of those things, it’s unfortunate that we have to deal with it but I’m obviously here today and I’m playing this PGA Tour event next week and will play the PGA Tour for the rest of my career.”
