Scottie Scheffler earned his first victory of the calendar year and seventh PGA TOUR title with a convincing five-shot victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.

The world no. 1 carded a six-under 66 in the final-round, which included six birdies, to end the tournament on 15 under five shots clear of second place Wyndham Clark, winning it for the second time in three years.

“I played a good round of golf. We got off to a good start and I just did my best to keep things rolling,” Scheffler said.

“I didn’t look at many leaderboards today, I kind of stayed in my own little space to keep pushing.

“It was a nice one. Like I said, I am just sticking to my process.

“Going into this week I tried to have a good attitude.

“It is truly an honour to win here and I am grateful that the Palmer family has kept the tournament going and I am looking forward to coming back here next year.”

U.S. Open Champion and compatriot Clark, who began the final day just a shot behind Scheffler carded a mixed two-under 70 to end on 10 under while Ireland’s Shane Lowry, who shared the overnight lead with Scheffler, fell away in third on 9 under.

The next event on the PGA TOUR schedule is THE PLAYERS Championship taking place between 14-17 March at TPC Sawgrass in Florida.
