Shaun Norris sealed his second victory on the DP World Tour on home turf thanks to a one-shot victory at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.

The 42-year-old, whose only previous victory on the tour came at the 2022 Steyn Championship, entered the final round at Leopard Creek Country Club in Malelane six shots off the lead but the Johannesburg native soared up the leaderboard with a final-round 67 which included an eagle and five birdies to end the tournament on 13 under and claim his first DP World Tour title in over two years.

“Words cannot describe this victory. It has been a very up and down year for me so thanks to my wife and family for keeping it all together,” he said after lifting the trophy.

“I did not believe 13 under would be enough to win. As I began the final round I thought that if I could finish on 14 or 15 under I might have a chance.

“To win at Leopard Creek is truly special. It is a phenomenal golf course and when we professionals come here each December it is always in immaculate condition.”

Compatriot Ryan Van Velzen, Norris’ closest competition, had the opportunity to reach 14 under on the 18th, however found water on his approach shot and went onto bogey the hole which clinched Norris the victory.

That meant Van Velzen had to settle for a T2 finish alongside Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult and England’s John Perry who all finished a shot behind Norris.

What is the next event?

The next event on the DP World Tour schedule is the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open taking place between 19-22 December at Mont Choisy Le Golf in Mauritius.
