St. Andrews Confirmed As Venue for The 155th Open in 2027

St. Andrews has been confirmed as the host for the 2027 Open Championship, which will be the 155th iteration of the event.

Regarded as the ‘Home of Golf’, the Old Course returns as the venue of the Open Championship for the first time since The 150th Open in 2022 which saw Australia’s Cameron Smith edge America’s Cameron Young and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy in a remarkable final-round to claim his first major title.

The 2027 Championship will take place between 15-18 July and will be the 31st occasion St Andrew has been host of the contest. The R&A’s announcement cements that it will maintain the five-year cycle the course has traditionally had meaning that it is also set to host the major championship in 2032 and 2037.

It will also mark the 100th anniversary of amateur Bobby Jones’ famous triumph in 1927 where he successfully defended his title with a dominant six-shot victory.

“There is something incredibly special about The Open being played on the Old Course and so many of the great champions have walked these fairways since the first staging here in 1873,” said Mark Darbon, chief executive of The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

“St Andrews is the home of golf and it generates a unique atmosphere for the fans and the players as well as providing an amazing spectacle on television and digitally for millions of viewers around the world.

“It promises to be another milestone occasion at one of sport’s greatest and most historic venues and we will be doing everything we can to make it a memorable experience for everyone involved.”

St Andrews first held The Open in 1873 in what was the tournaments 13th edition and the first time it had been played over an 18-hole course.

This year’s event will be held in Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
