Steven Fisk’s late birdie run helped the American hold off South Africa’s Garrick Higgo to claim a first PGA TOUR victory at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
The 27-year-old rookie came in to the final round at The Country Club of Jackson three shots off leader Higgo but began the day in fine fashion with three birdies in his opening five holes to put pressure on the South African. Higgo dropped shots at the 10th and the 11th to give Fisk the advantage but fought back with four consecutive birdies from the 13th. However, a crucial birdie miss at the 17th opened the door for Fisk as he pulled a shot ahead heading into the last and Fisk made no mistake as he birdied the 18th as he carded an 8-under 64 to seal his first victory on the PGA TOUR which led to emotional scenes on the green with his caddie and his wife.
“It feels pretty darn good,” he said speaking to Sky Sports. “I’ve been dreaming of this moment my whole life.
“I came out here today with an attitude that nothing was going to stop me from what I wanted. I just felt like I was going to be standing here right now before I started.
“[I have] self belief. Grit. I know I’m good enough. I thought I could do it. Sometimes you doubt yourself but, I don’t know, like I said I know I’m good enough.
“To have job security is pretty nice. It’s been a long, hard year.”
Fisk entered the tournament placed No. 135 in the FedExCup standings and was set to drop back down to the Korn Ferry Tour if he was unable to climb up the standings but the success means he has secured his PGA TOUR card that he will keep until the conclusion of the 2027 season. It also means he has booked himself a place at the 2026 PGA Championship and 2026 PLAYERS Championship.
Higgo finished two shots adrift of Fisk on 22 under while there was a three-way tie for third which included Ryder Cup debutant Rasmus Højgaard on 19 under.
What is the next event?
The next event on the PGA TOUR schedule is the Baycurrent Classic taking place between 9-12 October at Yokohama Country Club in Japan.
