Taylor Pendrith held his nerve to snatch a first PGA TOUR triumph in the tightly-contested CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
The 32-year-old Canadian approached the last at TPC Craig Ranch with a one-shot deficit behind Ben Kohles after the American hit back-to-back birdies at 16 and 17. However, on the last, Kohles hit a bad drive to open the door for Pendrith. He then missed the chance to force a play-off after missing a par putt which Pendrith took full advantage of as he went onto birdie the hole to finish on 23 under and earn him a maiden triumph on the PGA TOUR.
“It’s crazy,” Pendrith said. “Ben played great today and birdied 16 and 17. I didn’t hit my best iron shots down the stretch but a good two-putt on the last.
“I feel for Ben making bogey, he played so well today, but I’m super thrilled. It’s amazing, I’m shaking.”
This win for Pendrith adds to his two previous successes on the PGA TOUR Canada.
Sweden’s Alex Noren finished in third on 21 under while there was a four-way tie for fourth featured England duo Aaron Rai and Matt Wallace and South Korean pair S.H. Kim and Byeong Hun An.
The next event on the PGA TOUR schedule is the Myrtle Beach Classic taking place between 9-12 May at Dunes Golf and Beach Club in South Carolina.
