Thomas Detry collected his first title on the PGA TOUR thanks to a convincing seven-shot victory at the WM Phoenix Open.

The 32-year-old from Belgium already came into the final round at TPC Scottsdale with a healthy five-shot advantage over a field that featured high-profile names including the likes of World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and displayed his confidence throughout the final round to card a 65 which featured a flourish of three birdies in the final three holes to complete a comprehensive victory and claim a maiden PGA TOUR title.

“It’s what dreams are made of,” Detry said speaking to media afterwards.

“This is where I want to be and it’s pretty incredible to play golf the way I’ve been.

“I’ve given myself plenty of chances in the past and never been able to put a statement out like that.”

His previous best result on the PGA TOUR were runner-up finishes at the 2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship and more recently the 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open.

Victory means that he becomes the first player from Belgium to win on the PGA TOUR.

American duo Daniel Berger and Michael Kim finished the event tied-2nd on 17 under while there was also a tie for fourth between America’s Jordan Spieth and South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout.

Despite a promising start, Scheffler faded away from contention and had to settle with a T25 finish.

What is the next event?

The next event on the PGA TOUR schedule is The Genesis Invitational taking place between 13-16 February at Torrey Pines Golf Course (South Course) in California.
