Thorbjorn Olesen stormed to a convincing six-shot victory at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship to earn his eighth DP World Tour title.

The 34-year-old Dane entered the final round at Al Hamra Golf Club with an already sizeable four-shot lead and despite and early wobble and charge from fellow countryman Rasmus Hojgaard, Olesen went onto consolidate his lead thanks to an eagle on the eighth.

Olesen hit three more birdies on the back nine, including ono on the par-5 14th and concluded with a final-round 67 to end the tournament on 27 under and triumph in a DP World Tour event for the third successive season.

“It was still a battle out there,” Olesen said. “It got close and you’ve got one of the most solid players right behind you, so I knew it was going to be tough and we were tied for the lead very quickly. I played some nice golf coming in and holed the right putts at the right time.

“To win was a goal and it was nice to get that here, especially being here at my new home. It’s always a place I like to come to, not just for golf but for holidays. It’s a great place, and I’m really happy that I could get a win here.”

Hojgaard concluded with a final-round 69 to finish on 21 under, one shot ahead of France’s Frederic Lacroix.

The next event on the DP World Tour Schedule is the Bahrain Championship taking place between 1-4 February at Rayal GC.
