Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy to Team Up Against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in The Match

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will face off against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in The Match, a special charity competition next month.

The event, a 12-hole made-for-TV exhibition, is due to take place on 10th December at Florida’s Pelican Golf Club for its seventh edition and will raise money to support efforts following Hurricane Ian that hit the state in September.

The contest was first introduced by in 2018 with the help of Woods and saw the fifteen-time major champion take in Phil Mickelson. The previous edition of The Match in June saw NFL icons battle it out against each other with Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers coming up trumps against Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas.

The upcoming edition will see McIlroy, Spieth and Thomas all make their debuts in the competition. While for Woods, this will be his third appearance in The Match.

“Can’t wait to play in Capital One’s: The Match with Rory McIlroy against Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth to raise money for Hurricane Ian relief,” Woods tweeted. “See you boys under the lights on December 10th.”

Woods is still recovering from the car crash that occurred in February 2021 and has played limited amounts of golf since then with his last competitive appearance being in July when the 46-year-old missed the cut in The 150th Open at St Andrews.

Woods and McIlroy already have a strong relationship as they are business partners in TMRW Sports while Spieth and Thomas have been friends since their junior golf days and are on the back of strong performances in the President’s Cup which saw the U.S team demolish the International team.
