Six Young Champions

When the competitive stage had been cleared there were six champions from the match play finals at Spanish Bay:

Maleah Clark by 5 and 4 over Suri Lau in the girls’ 10-12; Lily Morua by 2 and 1 over Lexi Lowe in the girls’ 13-15; and Nicole Iniakov by 1 up over Cristen Faith Legaspi in the girls’ 16-18.

Vince Arciaga by 3 and 2 over Kaeden Schabel in the boys’ 10-12; William Keszler by 2 and 1 over Cullen Pritchard in the boys’ 13-15; and Dylan Brack by 3 and 2 over Toatele Ofahengaue in the boys’ 16-18.

Tiger’s Legacy

Anytime Woods is at Pebble Beach, the vibes can be felt. Well before any of these competitors at the TGR JR Invitational were born, the intersection of these two icons created history. In February of 2000, Woods erased a massive deficit over the final seven holes to score an improbable win in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro- Am, a victory that arguably went a long way toward cementing his legacy.

Then, four months later he played nearflawlessly to record a 15-stroke win in the U.S. Open.

Crucial Short Course

So in love with Pebble is Woods that in 2019 he offered his services to re-design The Hay. His pitch was simple: He learned to play on a short course and considers them crucial to the growth of golf.

“He saw the potential in that property,” said John Sawin, vice-president and Director of Golf for the Pebble Beach Company. The finished product is a thing of beauty and adds yet even more polish to America’s most revered resort.

The Vision Delivered

As for the TGR JR Invitational, Woods saw the potential in that, too, and it played out as beautifully as he envisioned.
