Todd Clements sealed his first triumph on the DP World Tour after hitting a superb 9 under 63 to overcome rest of the pack and win the Czech Masters by a single shot.
The 26-year-old from England managed to erase a three-stroke deficit in an exhilarating closing round at Albatross Golf Resort in Prague. He went onto hit three consecutive birdies on three different occasions in a bogey-free round to finish the tournament on 22 under.
“Given the circumstances that’s got to be the best round of my life,” Clements said. “I’m over the moon. I’ve dreamt about winning for a long time and with my birthday coming up on Tuesday I couldn’t be happier.
“Three shots to make up is a tough ask but I knew I was playing well enough to get in amongst it. I feel like I did my job on every shot and obviously the luck was with me today because I holed a few long ones.”
Clements closest competitor, Matt Wallace, who was tied for the lead going into the final day, pushed for victory after being only one behind with four to play but a missed birdie putt on the last meant that he had to settle for second after hitting a final-round 67 to finish on 21 under.
Denmark’s Nicolai Hojgaard completed the top three finishing four shots behind the leader.
The next event on the DP World Tour is the Omega European Masters taking place between 31 Aug – Sep 3 at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland.
