Top Ten Caddies of All Time

Willie Peterson

Yet another Augusta National Golf Club alumni, Willie Peterson, got his first caddying role at the Masters aged 16. When Peterson paired with Jack Nicklaus in 1959, they developed great chemistry, and he went to caddie for Nicklaus for all his five Masters wins in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, and 1975. The formidable duo worked together until 1983.

Terry McNamara

If you love or have heard of the great Annika Sorenstam, who performed wonders on the LPGA Tour, then you’ll be pleased to learn that one of the caddies credited with her success is Terry McNamara. After joining forces in 1999, the duo won 48 tournaments between 2000 and 2005. McNamara rightfully earned her spot in the Caddie Hall of Fame in 1999.

Adolphus “Golf Ball” Hull

Another 1999 Caddie Hall of Fame inductee is Adolphus Hull. Hull is famous mainly for being Raymond Floyd’s caddie, with the duo clinching four major championships together in a deep relationship spanning over twenty years. Hull also caddied for Calvin Peete and Jerry Pate.

Bruce Edwards

Bruce Edwards was undoubtedly born to be Tom Watson’s golf soulmate. The duo achieved substantial exploits between 1973 and 1989 before they parted ways, and Edwards went to caddy for Greg Norman. However, the remarkable bond between Watson and Edwards rekindled from 1992 until 2003, when the famous caddy sadly fell ill and passed away in 2004.

James “Tip” Anderson

St. Andrews has many golf talents, with the greatest arguably being the legendary caddy, James Anderson. Tip is famous as the man behind Arnold Palmer’s bag when he won his two Open Championship trophies. Apart from that, he was famous for offering many tips while celebrating the wins.

Final Thoughts

You can liken a caddy to many things: a wife, a nurse, a midwife, or someone that helps to bring out the best in a golfer. The wrong caddie can affect your gameplay no matter how good your swing is, while the right one can help you recover from even the most disappointing rounds. The above caddies made an indelible mark in their employers’ careers, and most have earned spots in the Caddie Hall of Fame, where they will gain respect till the end of time.
