Trump’s National Golf Club Party Results in COVID-19

Trump's National Golf Club was the focal of a mass coronavirus contraction

Some guests who attended a disco party at President Trump’s National Golf Club contracted the coronavirus at the party. In fact, sixteen guests who were linked to the party have all tested positive for COVID-19, more commonly known as the coronavirus.

The decision to have the party was met with criticism

The soiree, which occurred on March 8th was for former Rancho Palos Verdes, California Mayor Susan Brooks. This was her 70th birthday, which led to a lot of her guests being the at-risk demographic who the coronavirus could be fatal for. The party was held in the upstairs ballroom of Trump’s National Golf Club. Although the party was midst the first calls for people to stay at home and avoid large gatherings, Brooks still decided to throw the party, which caused controversy in the local area.

Considering her past political ties and being a leader in the community, her decision to go forth with the party was met with many criticisms. Susan Brooks daughter, Meredith commented that although social distancing was beginning to be encouraged, people were still have outings and going to gatherings.

“Weddings were going on that weekend,” Meredith explained. “Parties were going on that weekend. Life was going on as normal—it was the last normal weekend we had, but it was a normal weekend.”

Told partygoers with flu symptoms to not come

However, even Susan Brooks and her daughter had some trepidation about continuing with the party and sent a warning email out to guests before it occurred at the lavish Trump’s National Golf Club. “To anyone with a cough, fever, runny nose or other flu-like symptoms, please stay home and rest,” She added. “This is especially important for our age group. We love you and will miss you, and will celebrate together soon.”

Although Brooks called for people with these symptoms to stay at home, what we have learned in the recent weeks were that a lot of patients, such as celebrity actor Idris Elba, are asymptomatic.

Current Ranch Palos Verdes mayor tested positive

According to the Los Angeles Times, one of her guests Janice Hahn attended and was keeping any contact with people extremely limited or non-existent. She did mention that other guests were not as cautious as she was. She saw h’or d’oeuvres being passed around, a microphone being passed around, and people embracing by touching.

One guest who was at the party was current Rancho Palos Verdes’ Mayor John Cruikshank, who has tested positive for coronavirus.

All of the guests who tested positive are currently in quarantine.
