USA imposed a heavy 17-9 defeat to GB&I as they sealed their fifth consecutive Walker Cup victory in California.

The Americans had a narrow advantage with a 6.5-5.5 lead following the first day at Cypress Point in Pebble Beach and halved the morning foursomes to remain in touching distance ahead of the afternoon fourballs.

But the hosts overpowered GB&I for the rest of the day as they dominated the singles contests, winning 8 out of the 10 matches to claim a run-away victory. The Walker Cup was sealed for the Americans when Preston Stout earned a 2&1 win over Luke Poulter, the son of three-time PGA TOUR winner Ian Poulter, to take them over the crucial 14 points mark.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a Walker Cup team bring it like they did this afternoon in singles,” USA captain Nathan Smith said following their triumph.

The Americans continue to dominate the amateur Ryder Cup-style contest with GB&I winless since 2015 and have also failed to win on U.S. soil since 2001.

“We came here with a focus to raise a standard, to emulate what’s happened twice in 100 years,” GB&I captain Dean Robertson said. “But Nathan’s team, they played fantastic. … We had a belief. We had a goal. Even at lunch time, we had to get momentum. The red went on the board early.”

The next edition of the Walker Cup will take place in 2026 at Lahinch Golf Club in County Clare, Republic of Ireland.
