President Donald Trump claimed another big win at his Bedminster club championship with a score of 69. The White House celebrated his weekend tournament success. They posted “Winning on and off the course” with a scorecard showing Trump’s remarkable 69-67 score after handicap adjustments. But the achievement has sparked controversy with new allegations of cheating.
His reported score suggests a handicap of around 2 – an exceptional feat for any non-professional golfer. Critics have challenged these scores. One skeptic asked how “a chubby 79-year-old with the yips” could achieve such a score and win by that margin. A video emerged that shows what looked like a caddie dropping a ball for Trump during a round in Scotland. The footage has led many people to dig deeper into claims that Trump was caught cheating at golf twice in a single week.
Trump’s Bedminster Championship Win
The White House took an unprecedented step to promote Trump’s golf accomplishments through official channels recently as they proudly announced his victory at the 2025 Senior Men’s Championship at his Bedminster golf club. Trump’s scorecard, shared by the White House, showed him finishing at the top with an impressive gross score of 69 and a net 67 after handicap adjustments.
The 79-year-old president has claimed six club championships in 2025 alone. He won by 10 shots in the net competition, which adds to his collection of self-proclaimed golf titles.
Reports indicate Trump maintains a 2.8 handicap, the lowest among all past U.S. presidents. He defended his golfing abilities on Truth Social by saying: “I am pleased to report, for those that care, that I just won the Senior Club Championship at Bedminster, shooting a round of 67”.
On top of that, the President insisted there was “no hanky/lanky” involved and pointed out that “many people watch, plus I am surrounded by Secret Service Agents”.
Trump’s championship claims have faced scrutiny before. He announced winning a Senior Club Championship at Trump International Golf Club in 2023 despite not playing the first round. He declared that a round he played two days before the tournament would count as his score.
Video Footage Sparks Renewed Cheating Allegations
New video footage emerged online showing what looked like a caddie dropping a golf ball for Trump at his Bedminster club on August 2, the same day he claimed to win the championship. This wasn’t the first time – at Trump’s Turnberry course in Scotland, another caddie was caught placing a ball in a better spot.
The Bedminster video has got over 3.4 million views. It shows Trump’s caddie dropping a ball right onto the green. Trump then seems to move the ball around and drag it toward the hole with his club.
Golf experts highlighted various rule violations in these cases. The official Rules of Golf state that caddies can never drop balls. The rules also prohibit drops on putting greens, and players must place—not drop—any ball picked up on greens.
“It’s NEVER legal for your caddie to drop a ball. YOU can drop one, but never on a green,” said Rick Reilly, who wrote “Commander in Cheat”. He later added: “The 4 guys in Trump’s group finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th. Trump has a magic pencil”.
These events reinforce previous allegations against Trump. The caddies at Winged Foot, where Trump’s a member, nicknamed him “Pele” because they saw him kick balls back onto fairways repeatedly.
Experts and Rules Question Legitimacy of Trump’s Score
Golf experts doubt Trump’s reported scores, and with good reason too. Professional golfer Brad Faxon believes Trump’s chances of shooting a 69 at his age are “astronomical.” A 69 gross score puts a 79-year-old golfer among the top 0.1% of players worldwide.
The United States Golf Association’s strict guidelines govern scoring and handicaps. Players must have their scores witnessed and verified by playing partners. The handicap system needs players to report all rounds consistently, not just their best performances.
Trump’s claimed 2.8 handicap would rank him among elite amateur golfers. Only 1.6% of registered golfers maintain a handicap below 3.0. Golf Digest named Trump the best golfing president ever, but professionals who’ve played with him think his actual handicap is closer to 10.
The gap between Trump’s tournament scores and expert assessments has raised questions about his reporting integrity. A former playing partner puts it simply: “The score he claims and the score he actually shoots are rarely the same thing.”
So what do you think?
