Jacob Skov Olesen became the first Danish player to win the Amateur Championship by defeating England’s Dominic Clemons 4&3 in Saturday’s 36-hole final at Ballyliffin.
The 25-year-old, led by two after the first 18 holes and won four consecutive holes to extend his lead to six after the 23rd hole.
Although 21-year-old Clemons managed to win the 27th and 28th holes with a birdie and an eagle, Olesen maintained his composure and secured victory on the 15th green at the Glashedy course.
“It’s an honour, and I’m really proud to be the first Danish winner,” Olesen said. I haven’t really gotten to think about that, but I guess that’s something I’ll have forever, which is super cool.”
Olesen’s triumph has earned him a spot in next month’s Open Championship at Royal Troon, the 2025 U.S. Open, and, traditionally, an invitation to play in the Masters.
