Greg Norman has announced that he has officially departed from LIV Golf following his four-year tenure as CEO of the Saudi-backed circuit.

The 70-year-old was the first CEO of the breakaway league and was a crucial figure in the establishment and launch of the circuit after being appointed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) in October 2021. In January 2025, Norman was replaced by former CEO of Merlin Entertainments, Scott O’Neil, but had still been involved in a less public role in recent months.

However, the Hall of Fame golfer, posted on Instagram that he was no longer part of the organisation.

“After four unforgettable years, I have officially closed out my time with LIV Golf, reflecting with nothing but gratitude, pride and achievement,” Norman wrote. “Together, we built a movement that changed the game globally.

“We created opportunities for both players and fans and broadened the ecosystem of golf. We truly globalized the game and expanded golf’s reach to fans around the world… It’s been an incredible chapter, and I’m so proud of what we accomplished.”

Under Norman’s stewardship, LIV Golf has disrupted the landscape of men’s professional golf by attracting some of the sport’s biggest players such as Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, and Jon Rahm away from the PGA TOUR, sending shockwaves through the sport.

However, according to reports, Greg Norman’s influence as LIV Golf’s CEO began to wane in 2023. When the PGA TOUR, DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia’s PIF announced a surprise “framework agreement” in June 2023, Norman was not part of the publicised deal structure with the leadership roles appearing to be centered around Jay Monahan and Yasir al-Rumayyan.

The 2025 season of LIV Golf saw Jon Rahm earn his second consecutive individual title while Legion XIII collected the team championship title.
