Hyo Joo Kim Earns Wire-to-Wire Victory at The Ascendant LPGA

Hyo Joo Kim captured her sixth career LPGA TOUR title with a four-shot triumph at The Ascendant LPGA in Texas.

The 28-year-old South Korean went into the final round Old American Golf Club with a five-shot advantage and produced a two-under-par 69 to secure the win over Philippines’ Bianca Pagdanganan and Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul who both tied for second on 9 under.

The world no.7 kept hold of the top spot throughout the tournament for the first time since her victory at the LOTTE Championship presented by Hoakalei in April 2022.

On the front nine, she alternated between scoring birdies and bogeys but on the back nine, she sunk two birdies to maintain a comfortable lead.

“My results this year wasn’t bad, but there was some disappointment because I didn’t have a win,” Kim said. “I had a lot of the time to think just for myself, and before this year passes I really want to win. This week I was able to accomplish that and it was just a really happy week for me.”

American Lexi Thompson, who is set to take part in the PGA TOUR’s Shriners Children’s Open thanks to an exemption, ended the tournament on 7 under in fifth.

“Nothing but positives to take from it,” Thompson said.

The next event on the LPGA Tour is the Buick LPGA Shanghai taking place between 12-15 October at Qizhong Garden Golf Club.
